In all seriousness though, soak the grain and scooping it's not a serious infestation. Call your supplier and tell them what's up, they should reimburse you I get bags replaced for free if they are even torn. Free grain imo
Well I guess the first step is to isolate the origin, is it a supplier issue or something in house? Are you using an offsite mill house? Could be on them.
We have a 100 ton silo 3 miles away from our facility. We grind 12k lbs (6 ton) in a corn trailer then store it outside of our facility under cover . we go through that in a month. the last trailer had those bugs in the last couple tons. I am willing to use it as I imagine the folic acid isn't enough to hurt our product. I was just asking opinions. The bugs are surely from storing outside.
I'm with cotherman, I'd rather make one or a couple of extra trips and deal with the costs than risk grain spoilage, especially if they were only in the last few tons

If there isn't a way to separate them out, I would rather have them live going into the boiler rather than dead or rotting. I usually take my weevles fresh.

You mean weevils as in Wheat weevil @ Wikipedia?

Depends how picky you are. They generally float to the surface and can be scooped off if you soak the grain.

It is a good point to negotiate a lower price on the grain.
Protein for the yeasties...
I always remember that the end product is hot ethanol vapor and nothing lives through the process.

Eat a weavel. Nobody will respect you otherwise. If it's good enough for you to eat, who is to argue?
A right of passage :))

If I may ask, how bad is the infestation?

sounds like grinding half a truckload is worth any extra cost in the warmer months
I'm not following your reference to folic acid?

sorry big thumbs. FORMIC .lol And yes, we go thru a lot of corn and electric.
I am ok with the loss this time, we get our corn at 130.00 ton anyway.
